Washington County, Kentucky was created in 1792 out of Nelson County and was the first county created after Kentucky became a state. It was named for George Washington. The information was taken from two sources. The first was History of Kentucky written by Lewis Collins in 1882 and the second was KENTUCKY: A History of the State written by W. H. Perin, J. H. Battle, and G. C. Kniffin in 1885. Most of the biographical material was submitted by the person in the sketch, so the information should be very accurate.
WILLIAM NEIKIRK – a superannuated minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was born in Pulaski County, KY, October 19, 1819. Of a family of fiteen children born to John and Elizabeth (Aker) Neikirk, he was the next eldest. His father, John Neikirk, was born in Hagerstown, MD and came to Kentucky in company with the Aker family some time prior to the year 1815…. Etc.
