“Benton County lays just west of the Tennessee River as it journeys back across the state. These various records were found in one file of the W. P. A. Records which all may or may not be complete in themselves. The bulk of them are the Minute Book of the County Court for the 1830 – 1850s. Only the Scholastic Population is dated fairly close as 1836-1855.

Example:

“Sale of the Estate of James Holland – deceased on 18 May 1836 – [To] Willie Norman – to bed and furniture – $13.62 – – [To] Josiah Puckett – 1 bedstead and cord – .75…”
“Second, we find with six dollars and twenty-five cents on account of fines collected, bastardy by E. Alsup, Esquire.”
“Scholastic Population District No. 2 – 1849 – Jrand [?] Pritchell – 6, Mary Rogers -3, Thomas Homisde -6, C. G. Haynes – 1…”

Surnames:

We normally add a Surname Index to this volume, but this time it is so massive we chose not too. Just think of any resident of the county in the early to mid-time and they are probably listed in this volume.”
