Carter County, located in upper east Tennessee, is one of the older counties in the state being created in 1796 from Washington County. It was named in honor of Landon Carter, treasurer of Washington and Hamilton Districts of North Carolina, speaker of the State of Franklin senate and secretary of state. These records are a collection of information taken from the meetings and minutes of the six different associations of the Baptist Church at the time in the area. Each set of records is index with full name of each person mentioned. These six are:

Holston 1834
Mulberry Gap 1839 and 1841
Tennessee 1832 and 1834
Nolachucky 1832, 1833, and 1834
and Washington 1839.
Tennessee Association 1834 – WOOD, Elder Richard – b. 28 March 1756 in Mecklenburgh Co., VA – d.4 Feb. 1831 – wife Mary Price – served in SC militia in the American Revolutionary War – came to Sevier Co., TN after the Cherokee War – settled in Carter Co., TN before he died and served several churches in the area.
