Nueces County, located on the Gulf Coast was established in 1846 from a portion of San Patricio County and named for the Nueces River with Corpus Christi as the county seat. In this publication, you will find brief sketches of some of the early settlers of the area. Each of these sketches came from information supplied by the name sake to ensure accuracy.

“CAPTAIN PEYTON RANDOLPH MITCHELL – was born in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky in 1827, the eldest son born to William and Annie (Bohon) Mitchell, natives respectively of Virginia and Kentucky.
