Matagorda Co., TX, located on the Gulf of Mexico, is one of the older counties in the State. When the county was established in 1836 the name matagorda came from the Spanish word for thick brush because of the canebrakes that line the shore. In this volume, you will get a brief history of the county and the area around the county followed by a series of biographical sketches of early families in the county.
NOLAN KELLER – Francis Keller, the grandfather of our subject was probably born in Germany and came to this country to make a home and a reputation. He settled in Woodville, MS, kept a hotel for a number of years, and then in 1828 or 1829 entered the Lone Star State to buy land.
