Marion County located in the middle of the state was created in 1834 out of Washington County and named for General Francis Marion. This volume contains a short history of the county from the time of the creation up to the time of the original publication of the material in about 1885. It also contains short biographical sketches of many of the families who figured greatly in the development of the county. Much of the biographical information came from the families themselves, therefore, it should be considered a fairly accurate source of information.

Example

?GEORGE P. NEWBOLT is a Kentuckian by birth, and dates his nativity from the 29th of June, 1844. His father, William Newbolt, was born in Nelson (now Marion) County in the year 1800; he married Cecilia Penick in 1828, and they became parents of five children, of which number our subject is the only survivor.?
