Goodspeed produced several volumes of Tennessee history and biographies in large volumes in the late 1880s. Mountain Press divided these up into the various county venues and has published each county separately. This one for Hancock County in upper east Tennessee reflects his attempt to give the information on the families and the history. Hancock County was erected on 7 January 1844 and was named for John Hancock. The lands were takn from parts of Hawkins and Claiborne Counties.
