Wills compiled by the WPA are the most complete collection of Tennessee records found anywhere. While this volume does NOT contain all of the wills for Giles County because of a fire at the home of one of the workers, it is an impressive collection of documents not found elsewhere.
The complete contents of each will is published including date Of will, witnessess, testate, and distribution of estate.
Below is a short excerpt from one of the wills:
First, I direct that all my debts, and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible, out of the first monies that shall come into the hands of my Executor from any portion of my estate.
I also hereby will and bequeth to my beloved daughter Jane, one sorrel mare, saddle & bridle, two cows, one cupboard, one beaure, the balance of all my property, rights and possessions I give and bequeth to my beloved wife, Ann, for her sustainances and support during her life, and I do hereby make and ordain my beloved son Joseph, my executor of this, my last will and testament.
