Edward Cox was the first Methodist layman in the area that became Tennessee. He settled in the Sullivan County area around the 1774 time frame, being converted to Methodism by Francis Asbury when but a lad of 16 in 1773. Francis Asbury became a life long friend and spent many days in the Cox home, preaching and leading the Methodist of the area. The Edward Cox home was rebuilt in 1966 and remains today as one of the shrines of The United Methodist Church. This book is the story of his life and times.
