Lewis County, in middle Tennessee, is located at the head of the Natchez Trace that comes up out of New Orleans. The trace was likely named for the tribe of Native American known as the Natchez. This volume is a brief history of the early beginning of the county as written by Katie Cooper and collected by the W. P. A. workers in the 1930s as part of the project to get Americans back to work following the depression that gripped the nation at the time.
