Decatur County is located in the lower portion of west Tennessee on the Tennessee River as it travels north back through the state. This county was created in 1845 with lands taken from Perry County to the east of Decatur. The county was named after Stephen Decatur who was a noted figure during the War of 1812 and along the Barbary coast. It is fitting that the county was named for a sea faring persons since it is on the Tennessee River.
The records are primarily the deed records of the county for the time period shown. Included are a full name index and the original index of the book with only selected names given.
